Nigeria’s Digital Transformation: Government Launches National Broadband Plan

The Nigerian government has officially launched the National Broadband Plan (NBP) 2024-2030, aimed at expanding internet access and improving digital infrastructure across the country. The plan was unveiled by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, during a ceremony in Abuja.

The NBP aims to achieve 90% broadband penetration by 2030, focusing on rural and underserved areas. The government has partnered with private sector players to roll out high-speed internet infrastructure, which is expected to boost economic activities and enhance access to digital services.

Dr. Pantami highlighted that the plan includes initiatives to support local tech startups and improve digital literacy. “Our goal is to make Nigeria a leading digital economy in Africa,” he said.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the plan, noting that improved internet access will drive innovation and economic growth. The NBP also aligns with Nigeria’s broader efforts to diversify its economy and reduce reliance on oil revenues.
