Imo JONAPWD postpones Congress to Nov. 8.… Threatens to sanction inactive LGs officials.By Kelechi Ugo.
The Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities, JONAPWD Imo State chapter has postponed its Congress scheduled to hold on Saturday 2nd November, 2024 to 8th November,2024.
Reason for the postponement was the inability of JONAPWD Local Governments officials to form quorum(two-third majority) so as to carry on the Congress.
However, some of the JONAPWD stakeholders including the Imo State Chairman of the Association, Hon. Stanley Chinedu Nwachukwu, Hon. Chief Nnadi Wisdom Ndugba,Isu LGA Treasurer, Mr. Gerald Opara among some LGAs Chairmen and Secretaries, Cluster heads and their Secretaries were present at Imo State Council for Arts and Culture where the event expected to hold.
They unanimously agreed that the Congress should be postponed to Friday 8th November, 2024 by 11:00 am and warned that any LGA Chairman, cluster head as well as their Secretaries who failed to attend the Congress will be sanctioned.
Addressing the disabled community, the Imo State leader of JONAPWD, Hon. Dr. Stanley Chinedu Nwachukwu said that regretted that the Congress failed to hold last week Saturday because of the State monthly environmental sanitation which gave room for lack of quorum.
Dr. Nwachukwu who doubles as the Special Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC South East chapter disclosed that Electoral body that will conduct election for new crop of State executive officers of JONAPWD in January ,2025 will be elected through open-secret ballot system.
He seized the opportunity to re-invite the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development as well as top government functionaries to come and witness the Congress.
The PWDs leader told his communities that Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has bountiful packages for them as 2024 disabilities day celebration will be a special day.
The event will feature the presence of all the Local Governments JONAPWD Chairmen and Secretaries, Cluster heads and their Secretaries as well as critical stakeholders of Persons With Disabilities, PWDs in Imo State.
